Facebook Blues

Wow, another unexpected day without school. I guess this is what I should get used to. Not that I'm complaining; random days off are pretty nice. That being said I expended all my extra thoughts yesterday. Hmmm... Well, I've been considering deleting my facebook. I've heard some of the stories: teacher goes on a vacation, pictures (four) of her drinking alcohol in a bar show up on facebook, "parent" complains, she is subsequently fired. There are other instances out there too. While in the recent past I've been more careful as to what pictures of me show up on facebook, who knows what random snapshot of my past will come back to haunt me. It's almost humorous how one can work towards something for so long, and then some small oversight can take it all away. On the other hand there's a number of people I really like out there that I may have a hard time connecting with without facebook. Moving on to a job and someday my own place of living, it'll be even harder to connect with people. Everyone has a social need, how will that be fulfilled? So, to delete the facebook or to not delete the facebook. What do you think?

  1. I'm sorry, but the fact a parent can complain about what child's teacher gets up to outside of the classroom is ludicrous. On what grounds does anyone have any right to complain about what someone does outside of the work environment?
How do "parents" even come across these photos? Shouldn't they be busy raising their children or something?
I swear, the nerve of some people.

Anyway, here it is apparently "illegal" for a student to have a teacher's phone number, or even be facebook 'friends'..

But that's not what this is about, I guess.
I would say keep your facebook, that way you can keep in touch with other people as your job slowly starts to take over your life...

  2. You've also got facebook terrorism to worry about from "anonymous" =P But stuff like that is rare. I agree with somethinganything. Just make it private and hope for the best =\

  3. Be unique, have facebook, but don't use it! Call your friends instead! I swear to god, i haven't heard some of my friends voices in years. All i know is texts and facebook. I think the world should lean back on personal relationships and less on electronic ones.

  5. I think having a facebook is useful for keeping in touch with friends and family. I mean, as long as you don't add like 500 friends. You're only gonna end up talking to like 10 of them anyways.

  6. You shou;dn't get fired because of what you do in personal life. As long as you're being a good teacher, I don't think they should fire you.

  7. Facebook is very useful, but has downside. Just be sure to monitor it daily and delete anything you dont want on there.

  8. Just be careful with it. I don't think deletion is your best option.

  9. instead of "deactivating" your account, keep the friends that you know personally and actually give a shi about! I get annoyed with all the lames from my area since they're all the same conformist bastards, hahaha. Teachers and parents around my area are notorious for making fake profiles and trying to eavesdrop on current student affairs, lammmme, good post though!
